                                                    Educational Program

                                                    Here at Imagine @ Sullivant, the student is the heart and soul of each program. We use Differentiated Instruction to meet each child where they are currently and take them to where they need to be. Differentiated Instruction is grounded in the fact different students learn differently; students bring various levels of knowledge based on their past experiences and education, many options help mold the curriculum to the child. Differentiated Instruction blends many practices such as learning centers, group work, individual instruction, homework and class work to give the students the best tools possible to succeed.

                                                    Targeting Every Student

                                                    In differentiated instruction; instruction is individualized for each student, the teacher targets every learner with a specified educational plan. These targeted plans utilize the student's strengths while working through the student's weaknesses. Targeting each learner ensures that all learners, including students with learning disabilities, are able to learn and master the educational concepts.

                                                    English Language Arts

                                                    The curriculum we use is Reading Street; it is an innovative and adaptable approach to teaching reading in today’s classroom. Teachers direct any path and any pace to customize to the class. All instruction is centered on the literature. Each week, students will read fiction and nonfiction as well as classics and soon-to-be classics. Compelling literature promotes critical thinking, cultural awareness, and an opportunity to apply new skills and strategies. Children learn using print, CD, DVD, or online—or any combination.  Additionally, students learning by building background knowledge and making connections across texts and across content areas.

                                                    These main ideas are focused on in every unit;

                                                    Writing

                                                    In Reading Street, children write every day—writing that is connected to the same big questions, topics, and genre that they have been exploring in their reading. They respond to literature, write journal entries, and of course, learn to write like authors.

                                                    English Language Learners (ELL)

                                                    Reading Street is designed to integrate English language learners (ELLs) from the very beginning. Front loading of concepts, vocabulary, and skills give ELLs more immediate and efficient access to the core instruction.

                                                    Students can use retelling cards as “pretelling” cards to do a story walk before reading the story to help create schema and concepts. English language learners can then read the story and focus more on learning the comprehension and vocabulary in a much more efficient process.

                                                    Support for ELLs happens at point-of-use in the core lessons without interrupting the teacher’s flow of instruction. Teachers have specific English language proficiency support for small group and differentiated instruction located at the end of every week in the Teacher’s Edition.

                                                    Everyday Mathematics

                                                    Here at Sullivant we use the Everyday Mathematics curriculum (K-6). The curriculum has a number of strong features that made this our top choice. These include: real-life problem solving, balanced instruction, multiple methods of basic skill practice, and an emphasis on critical thinking. Everyday Mathematics emphasizes the application of mathematics to real world situations.

                                                    Each Everyday Mathematics lesson includes time for whole-group instruction as well as small group, partner, or individual activities.
                                                    Everyday Mathematics provides numerous methods for basic skills practice and review. (Math facts, mental math, fact triangles, daily sets of review problems called Math Boxes, and a wide variety of math games.

                                                    Throughout the curriculum students are encouraged to explain and discuss their thinking, in their own words. Opportunities are given to students to verbalize their thoughts and strategies and gain insights from others.

                                                    21st Century Skills

                                                    Preparing children for life in the twenty-first century is incorporated in Reading Street. The program uses “The Internet Guy” who students will come to know as their guide for all things Internet! Students are exposed daily to the web throughout the program; using the Digital Go Path; which incorporates songs, videos, and stories.
